Are you also struggling with your mind for a productive day ?

Mental health issues have a significant impact on the well-being and productivity of employees in the workplace.

From absenteeism to decreased productivity and an increased risk of accidents and errors, it is crucial for organisations to address these challenges.

Not to mention the soul sapping emotional toll that feeling unsupported or overly pressured can take. I remember those 80-hour weeks in PR agency life well when I was stuck on the ‘do more to get more’ hamster wheel.

By creating a supportive and empathetic work environment, employers can help individuals navigate their mental health struggles while maintaining a high level of productivity and safety.

1. Absenteeism:
Mental health issues often contribute to increased absenteeism among employees. The stress, burnout, and emotional challenges individuals face can make it difficult for them to show up consistently. To reduce this employers can implement strategies such as flexible work arrangements, employee assistance programs, and promoting a culture that encourages open conversations about mental health.

2. Presenteeism:
Presenteeism refers to the phenomenon where employees show up to work despite not being fully productive due to mental health challenges. Creating a supportive environment that values employee well-being is crucial. Employers can promote work-life balance, encourage regular breaks, and provide access to mental health resources. A culture that recognises the importance of self-care and mental health, organisations can empower employees to prioritise their well-being.

3. Productivity:
Mental health issues can significantly impact productivity. Feelings of anxiety, depression, or stress can hinder concentration and focus, leading to decreased output. To improve productivity, organisations can implement measures such as workload management, providing clear expectations, and offering flexibility in work arrangements. Encouraging healthy lifestyle choices, promoting regular exercise, and emphasising the importance of self-care can also contribute to improved mental well-being and productivity.

4. Accidents and Errors:
The link between mental health challenges and an increased risk of accidents and errors in the workplace is well-documented. Stress, fatigue, and lack of concentration can impair cognitive function, leading to a higher likelihood of accidents and mistakes. Employers can mitigate these risks by implementing safety protocols, ensuring adequate rest breaks, and promoting a culture of open communication.

To prioritise the mental wellbeing of employees, managers can implement strategies such as flexible work arrangements, mental health resources, workload management, and safety protocols.

By investing in mental health support, organisations can cultivate a healthy and productive work environment that benefits both employees and the overall success of the company.

Book your Discovery Call here – click here

Encourage open communication channels and value diverse perspectives.

Support: Be a source of support for your colleagues. Offer assistance when needed.

AND celebrate their achievements. Remember, a rising tide lifts all boats!

Constructive Feedback: Share your thoughts in a constructive manner, focusing on improvement rather than criticism. Help your colleagues grow and learn from each other.

Now, let’s address toxic work behaviours.

Whether it’s gossiping, backstabbing, or undermining others, these actions poison the workplace ecosystem.

Remember, creating a positive work environment starts with you.
Spread positivity and ask yourself – is this kind?

Highly negative soap operas give us the idea that life is all about conflict and that everyone has to be opposed in some way.

Let’s work together instead.

Do share this blob with your network and let’s spread a positive ripple and inspire others to embrace positivity in the workplace.

Share your thoughts below!

Imagine a world where everyone is constantly trying to please others, saying what they think others want to hear, and hiding their true selves behind a facade.

Sounds exhausting, right?

Well, here’s the truth: authenticity will take you places where pleasing people simply cannot.

In a society obsessed with perfection or the external image we project, it’s easy to lose sight of our own unique qualities.

We often find ourselves conforming to societal norms, afraid to stand out and be true to who we really are. To the point where we don’t even know who we really are or what we really desire. I mention this in my book Reset!

A Blueprint for a Better Life by referencing the movie ‘The Runaway Bride’ where the character played by Julia Roberts realises, while trying to order a breakfast serving of eggs in a diner, that she doesn’t actually really know how she likes them cooked. She only knows how her former fiancés liked theirs.

So listen up. Your authenticity is your superpower.

Being empathic, we naturally strive to please others and make them happy.

But in doing so, we often forget to prioritise our own needs and desires or make the time and space to know what they are and what we truly want.

It’s time to break free from this cycle and embrace the power of authenticity.

When you embrace your true self, you attract genuine connections and opportunities that align with your values and goals

People are drawn to authenticity because it’s refreshing and inspiring. It creates a sense of trust and builds strong relationships, both personally and professionally.

So, let go of the fear of judgment and embrace your authentic self.

Whether it’s in your personal life or your professional endeavors, authenticity will set you apart from the crowd. And you will have a congruency between who you project yourself to be and who you truly are, deep down, where it matters.

Are you ready to unlock your true potential?

Share in the comments below how you plan to embrace authenticity in your life and let’s inspire each other to shine brightly.

#AuthenticityIsTheNewCurrency #BeYourself #UnlockYourPotential #EmbraceAuthenticity #InspireOthers #ShineBrightly

Finding the the Potential Within: The 4 A’s of Mental Health Transformation

In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship and business leadership, mental health often takes a back seat. However I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of focusing on mental well-being. Today, I’d like to share with you the four essential pillars of mental health transformation that can make a world of difference in your journey to success.

Awareness:

In the relentless pursuit of success, it’s easy to lose sight of the importance of mental health. Awareness is the cornerstone of any transformation. It’s about recognizing that your mental health is not a separate entity but an integral part of your entrepreneurial journey. By acknowledging the impact of stress, anxiety, or burnout on your performance and overall well-being, you take the first step towards lasting change.

Accommodation:

Entrepreneurs are often told to push through obstacles, but sometimes, the best way forward is by accommodating your mental health needs. This means making room for self-care, mindfulness, and self-compassion in your life. It’s about understanding that nurturing your mental well-being doesn’t hinder your progress; it enhances it. By embracing this mindset shift, you can find the balance between ambition and self-care.

Assistance:

No one has to navigate the challenging entrepreneurial landscape alone. Seeking assistance from a trusted mental health coach or therapist can be a game-changer. Just as you would hire an expert in your business to drive success, enlisting the guidance of a mental health professional can provide you with the tools to manage stress, overcome limiting beliefs, and unlock your full potential.

Access:

Access to mental health resources should be as effortless as accessing any other business tool. It’s about breaking down the barriers that may prevent you from seeking help when needed. Recognize that prioritizing your mental health is not a sign of weakness but a sign of wisdom. Ensure that you have the access and support necessary to thrive, both personally and professionally.

By embracing awareness, accommodating your mental health needs, seeking professional assistance, and ensuring access to resources, you can embark on a transformative journey that will not only enhance your entrepreneurial success but also lead to a happier, more fulfilling life.

Remember, you have the power to transform your mental health and, in turn, transform your business and life.

Knowing your enemy is your biggest weapon to beat it. Today, let’s examine the biggest enemy of our age that resides in us: stress.

Did you know that there are different types of stress? I’m summarising them here with hacks to deal with each 🙏🏽

1. Acute Stress:

– Definition: Acute stress is short-term stress triggered by a specific event or situation, such as a deadline or a sudden conflict.
– Solution: The key here is to regain control. Try deep breathing exercises, take short breaks, and engage in physical activity like a brisk walk to release built-up tension. Positive self-talk and reframing the situation can also help you see it in a less stressful light.

2. Episodic Acute Stress:

– Definition: This is when acute stress becomes a recurring pattern in a person’s life, often due to chronic disorganisation or a tendency to overcommit.
– Solution: Start by organising your life and setting realistic priorities. Learn to say ‘no’ when necessary and seek support from friends, family, or a therapist. Mindfulness and relaxation techniques can also be invaluable in breaking the cycle of episodic stress.

3. Chronic Stress:

– Definition: Chronic stress is ongoing and often related to long-term life situations, such as financial struggles, an unfulfilling job, or a strained relationship.
– Solution: Address the underlying causes by creating a plan for change. Seek professional help if necessary, such as financial counselling or career coaching. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep are essential for managing chronic stress. Additionally, mindfulness meditation and relaxation therapies can improve your resilience.

4. Physical Stress:

– Definition: Physical stress is caused by external factors like injury, illness, or environmental pressures on the body.
– Solution: Prioritise self-care and seek medical attention if you have a physical condition. Follow your doctor’s advice, maintain a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition and exercise, and ensure adequate rest and recovery.

5. Psychosocial Stress:

– Definition: Psychosocial stress arises from social and psychological factors such as relationship issues, discrimination, or traumatic events.
– Solution: Open communication with friends, family, or a therapist can provide emotional support. Learn healthy coping strategies like journaling, art, or music therapy. Practice self-compassion and seek professional help if traumatic experiences are affecting your mental health.

Remember, stress is a natural part of life, but it does not have to overwhelm you.

By identifying the type of stress, you are experiencing and implementing these solutions, you can take significant steps towards managing and reducing its impact on your well-being.

It is essential to prioritise self-care and seek help when needed, as stress management is a journey towards a healthier, happier life.

Book your Discovery Call here – click here

“No but, the situation was so tense that I reacted that way!”

Sometimes, in the workplace, things can get a little mixed up and confusing. And you may get triggered.

It’s like when you’re trying to put together a puzzle, but some pieces just don’t fit right.

Now, here’s the special part: the leaders, the people who guide the team, have a choice.

They can be ‘bitter’- focus only on getting the work done instead of caring about the employees and their welfare.

Or, they can choose to be ‘better.’ This means they try to make things good even when it’s hard.

Leaders can learn from what’s happening and use it to make the team stronger.

Here’s how leaders can be ‘better’:

Talk and Listen: We can talk to the team and really listen. Listening helps everyone understand each other.

Help Everyone Feel Strong: We can show everyone how awesome they are and help them do their best. Everyone brings something special.

Be Honest and Kind: We can be honest about how they tell us they feel, even if it’s a bit hard. We also need to be kind and gentle with our words. It’s like when you tell your friend the truth, but in a kind way. Kindness wins.

So, leaders have a superpower – they can choose to be ‘better’ and make everything awesome!

Choose to be better in bitter times!

Dear “Person-who-is-too-kind-to-say-no”,

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge your dedication and kindness in the workplace. Your commitment to being a supportive and accommodating team member is truly commendable.

However your kindness leads you to overlook an essential aspect of well-being: setting boundaries. It’s essential to strike a balance between being helpful and taking care of yourself.

I understand that setting boundaries can be challenging, especially in a professional setting where you want to be a team player. Still, it’s crucial to prioritise your mental health and overall well-being.

Setting boundaries isn’t a sign of selfishness or indifference. Instead, it’s an act of self-care and self-respect. It allows you to protect your mental and emotional health, ensuring that you have the energy and capacity to perform at your best in the long run.

You are probably familiar with the analogy of the Oxygen Mask.

This is that always-repeated in-flight safety announcement that parents must put on their own oxygen mask first (if decompression occurs) before seeing to their children. If you are unconscious you are no help to anyone around you. So you have to learn to put on your own mask first.

Here are a few gentle steps to help you set your own boundaries:

1. It’s Okay to Say NO: Remember that saying “no” to additional tasks or requests when you’re stretched thin is not a sign of weakness

2. Prioritise Self-Care: Make time for self-care activities that help you recharge and relax.

3. Communicate Your Boundaries: It’s perfectly acceptable to communicate your boundaries to your colleagues and superiors respectfully. Of course you first have to know them. As a people pleaser this will be hard but ultimately very empowering.

4. Seek Support: If you’re struggling with setting boundaries, consider seeking support from a trusted colleague, mentor, or a mental health professional.

You deserve to feel happy, fulfilled, and balanced in all aspects of your life, including your professional one.

If you ever want to discuss this further or seek guidance on setting boundaries, I’m here to support you.

I failed to plan for cancer on my ‘Year Ahead Planner’ 20 years ago.
‌
Hearing that diagnosis freed me to immediately push everything else on my To do list aside. From the get-go I was determined that I would overcome it and also not be defined by it.

So as both a therapist, coach and someone who has navigated several severe illnesses I feel able to offer the advice that you are more than your diagnosis or illness be it physical or mental.

Life often presents us with unexpected challenges that may lead us to believe these trials define our identity. But it’s vital to recognise that you extend far beyond these circumstances.

Some ways to navigate this and own your life again are as follows:

🔥Your Life as a Storybook: Picture your life as a book, where you are the author. Within its pages, there may be chapters detailing setbacks such as health issues, but these challenges do not constitute your entire story.
Your life story is a one-of-a-kind creation, as distinct as your own fingerprint. It encompasses your aspirations, your joys, your passions, and the unique individual you are evolving into.

🔥You Are Not Your Illness: Think of it as having a close friend who occasionally faces tough times but possesses many other remarkable qualities. Your illness is just one aspect of your life, not the whole picture.
Be careful how you speak about your illness. Using “my” to describe your challenges is profoundly impactful.
Consider the difference between “my cancer” and “the cancer.” Possessing these challenges as your own, rather than being possessed by them, is an essential part of reclaiming your sense of power.

🔥Navigating the Tough Chapters: It’s entirely normal if some parts of your life story appear challenging right now. Your narrative is an ongoing journey, and it holds many beautiful chapters that await discovery. It may not seem like it now but trust me it’s true.

🌳Like this poem:

Strong trees do not grow with ease.

The stronger the wind

The stronger the trees

🌳Even in tough times you are laying deep roots to give you more strength to grown into the exceptional person you are and continue to become.

📖 Your story is a testament to your resilience, your dreams, and your indomitable spirit.

Keep going. Keep writing your remarkable story, one chapter at a time.

I’ve seen how prioritising work can come at the expense of personal well-being. It’s important to find a balance that includes kindness to oneself and others.

Define what ‘having it all’ or success means to you. It’s not just about financial abundance, but also meaningful relationships, a fulfilling career, good health, personal growth, and having fun.

And feeling good.

Kindness and the act of giving can release feel-good hormones that promote better physical and mental health. Much research shows that engaging in acts of kindness makes you happier.

Kindness is not the same as being nice. While being nice is about being pleasant and agreeable and doing what we think we should, kindness is much more.

I love the idea of being kind and paying it forward.

I first discovered Random Acts of Kindness in the early 1990s when I was attending Tony Robbin’s ‘Unleash The Power Within’ course. At the time social media was in its infancy so we purchased packs of cards that had an angel on the front and then some suggestions for blessing others with random kind acts. Suggestions included paying for the groceries of the next person in a store. Leaving money for 10 coffees for the next people to come into a coffee shop similar random and anonymous kindnesses.

Kind people have worked out that we are all human beings and not human doings and that as we get caught up in the relentless busyness of daily life, we strive to do our best even if this often falls short.

Charles Glassman sums it up nicely and says:“Kindness begins with the understanding that we all struggle.”

Kindness is about authentically being yourself and accepting others for who they are.

It means treating yourself and others with empathy and comprehension in the current moment.

Every one of us has the ability to inspire others to believe in the existence of good-hearted individuals in this world. So start by bringing the positive change you want to see in the business world and beyond; be kind to yourself and others today 🙏🏽

#kindnessmatters #kindness #selfcompassion #compassionateleadership
