AN OPEN LETTER TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING THERAPY FOR THE 1ST TIME

by

Dear Brave one,

I hope this letter finds its way to your heart. ❤️

I know that thinking about therapy might feel a bit scary right now, and that’s okay.

I want you to know that you’re not alone in feeling this way, and there’s something really special waiting for you on the other side.

Why might it feel scary?

Well, imagine going into a place you’ve never been before, where you might need to share things that feel private.

That can be a bit like standing at the edge of a new adventure—exciting but a tad nerve-wracking.

But guess what? Those fears are just like butterflies fluttering before a big journey. Let’s take a moment to understand them:

???? Fear of the Unknown: It’s like opening a book to a new chapter. You’re not sure what’s coming, and that uncertainty can be a bit unsettling. As a species we love what is familiar as this, to our primitive brain, equals safe.  But if what was familiar to you right now was really safe then you wouldn’t be reaching out to change or find something better or a new way to think, feel and behave would you?

???? Sharing the Story: Talking about your feelings might seem daunting. It may, if unfamiliar to you, feel at first like showing someone a part of your diary. But, here’s the secret: therapists are non judgemental, a safe place to be and good listeners. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard the words, “I’ve never told anyone else this but…..”.  Allow us to be that person who finally bears witness to what you are carrying.

???? Vulnerability Worries: Opening up can make you feel vulnerable, like standing in front of a crowd. But remember, vulnerability is, or will become, your strength—it’s the magic that leads to healing.

Now, let’s talk about why you shouldn’t be scared and what to expect:

A Safe Space: Therapy is like a cozy corner where you can be you. It’s safe, and whatever you share stays there.
No judgment, just understanding.

Discovering You: Therapy is an adventure of self-discovery. It’s like unlocking the mysteries of you with a guide who’s there to support, not to push.

A Helping Hand: Therapists are like skilled travel companions on your journey. They’re here to help you navigate, providing tools and strategies to make the trip smoother.  Like Cairn Stones on a dangerous mountain path, we guide the way for you to take the new way over the mountain.

So, what is stopping you?

Nearly all therapists offer non obligation calls and I’m no exception. That way you can discover if their modality, and that person, is right for you.

Pick up the phone or book in a call.
Then you can take the first step on a journey toward healing and understanding.

It’s okay to feel scared, but it’s also okay to take that brave step forward.

You’ve got this, and you’re not alone.
With warmth and support,
Rosalyn x
